Recovery and Support

The service

Supports patients undergoing hip and knee replacements at the Peninsula Treatment Centre Plymouth and Derriford Hospitals and covers countywide. The aim of the service is to provide a seamless experience from community into hospital and back home again within a few days.

To identify post discharge care needs and if additional support from other care agencies are required.

To give expert advice regarding surgery particularly those having complex surgical proceedures including revision operations.

All Referrals are recieved directly from the hospitals via waiting lists

The service staff is

  • Orthopaedic Specialist Sister
  • Occupational Therapist
  • Physiotherapist
  • Rehabilitation Assistants
  • Secretarial Support

What we do

  • Pre operative telephone assessment 
  • Pre operative home assessment and provision of aids that will support independence
  • Post discharge follow up including clip removal, physiotherapy and progression of independence
  • Physiotherapy clinics or at home
  • Follow up after 8 weeks to return to normal activities, 
  • sport advice, 
  • return to work advice, 
  • long term care advice.
