Pioneer Status

We are delighted that out of the 99 UK bids, Cornwall is one of 14 areas chosen from across England to be awarded Pioneer Status.

Pioneer Status will give us additional support to develop integrated or 'joined up' health and social care services. Integrated services enable the individual to move easily from one service to another; only telling their story once to anyone involved in their care regardless of who they work for; knowing who is supporting them and why.

The 14 pioneers will develop integrated services with the help of Public Health England, Monitor, NHSIQ, Health Education England and the Local Government Authority among others.

What does putting people first mean for you?

Our vision is that people are able to live the lives they want to the best of their ability and as part of this we aim to improve health and well being, improve experience of care and support and reduce cost of care and support. It is now internationally recognised that to achieve a sustainable health and social care system it is necessary to deliver on all three of these aims.

So you should...

  • only have to tell your story once
  • understand what is important to you
  • get the information you need at the right time to make the choices that are right for you
  • be able to decide what help you need and know how you can access it
  • understand the costs of care, what money is available and how to make the best use of it
  • be able to achieve your goals
  • feel in control
  • know those around you and looking after you get help too
  • know what to expect at any time
  • feel you can live the life you want

What does integration mean?

Integration means different things to different people.

It is a means to an end, not the end in itself and should be focused where it can make the greatest impact, given the available resources and opportunities.

How will we measure our success?

We will look to see how our work has improved your health and wellbeing, your experience of care and support and if we have reduced the cost of care and support.
